There’s this line in the movie Top Gun where the pilots are in the locker room, cleaning up from the mission and recounting the details of their encounters with the instructors. Wolfman, talking about his flight, recalls how he “lost sight” of the aggressor (training “enemy”) aircraft and he asked his RIO, Hollywood, where the instructor went. “Where’d he go?”
Hollywood responds, “Where’d who go?”
So, that’s the title for my update entry today. I’m here, still in Iraq. I haven’t left yet, but soon. It’s time for that small break, that reminder that what I remember from back home is still real and still waiting.
Some people think we’re special for doing this. I don’t think I’m special, I think my family is special for putting up with this. I chose to put up with this to do something I wanted to do, fly helicopters— my wife is home with four children and the bills.
If you think we’re special, the families that love us and wait for us to come home, now that’s special!

I think you’re very special for what you do over there in Iraq. I also think you’re special for what you do here on the ‘net.
Thank you for your service to our country. Stay safe.
See you on the Shovel forum.
