Two Worlds

It strikes me as I come back to this desert, that once again, I’m living in two worlds. There is the world where my body exists, this time zone and location that defines the work and sleep cycle. And there is the world where my heart is, the time zone and location where my family lives. I’m torn, and have been torn, even before leaving. On the one hand I want to stay with my family, to live my life with them; to experience life with my wife and my daughter and my sons. On the other hand, I do not want to leave those who are counting on me to be the guy next to them in the foxhole, someone who knows how to do his job and how to accomplish it. To live here is to keep the hope of my return to my family, and when the mission is done, I will gain that hope as a reality.

I’ve always imagined you guys who go far away in the name of freedom must have a keen insight into what Christ sacrificed coming to Earth at all…torn, far from his father, but needed by the people around him.

God bless.

Come back soon. Look for my silhouetted figure at the top of each dune, know that my hands are folded in prayer for you, and that from my vantage point I look toward you, and back toward your family, and up to the Father of us all, and I am praying.
