Sower or the Seed?

I was just writing to a friend about my experience with faith and grace and remembered something that had struck me as odd one day. In the parable of the sower, do we realize that God is the sower? Oh, I know, the sower is always preached as being God, but is that how the individual looks at it from the reader’s perspective?

What is the seed? A picture of life, potential life? But do some people see themselves as the seed? But isn’t the seed the gospel, or the Word of God?

So then, what is our part in the story? Understanding Jesus’ context for the parable to his disciples, where do we come in? We’re the dirt (from dust to dust, and all that).

I was the soil with weeds for many years! Oh, trust me, the cares of the world are not a job and family, they are much, much closer to home than those. The cares of the world are our desires to justify ourselves.

God, you’ve been doing a lot of weeding, waiting for this one patch to yield any fruit; Thanks for the patience, and keep pulling!

Bill,

This is such a blessing! A few people I’ve been around this week, and some things I’ve read this week have been SO tiring. You’re “eyes” to see these things is appreciated. I am so thankful for this!
