My Life in Pictures

There are those who say that this time served in war will define our lives. You know, it will probably define my life in the Army, and I will measure the rest of it by what I experience here, but my life was well-defined before I got here. This is simply another rough edge that will need to be worn smooth by time. Until then, there is just the raw pain from the constant scraping.

There is nothing easy about being deployed. I’m here to fight a war, which means that I have to be ready for people to shoot at me and be ready to shoot at people. Commanders mention being put on this earth for these moments, to command in combat. It’s their interpretation of the events that brought them here. I’d rather have been put on the earth for the moments that I’ve left behind; five lifetime moments that I carry around in pictures with me and look at nearly every day.

Bill… for what this is worth (probably more cathartic for me than beneficial for you), each morning I have a routine… part of which is taking my dog Harley our for his morning ritual… while I wait for him to finish up, I pray… and part of that prayer time is praying, among other things, for you to return safely to those “5 lifetime moments”... your sacrifice is noted and appreciated…
