I told you that I would post a pic of the tattoo when I got a chance. Well, I just got a new digital camera, so here’s my chance.
If you can’t tell what it is, it is a representation of a phoenix. It isn’t true to the mythology of the phoenix, as in the phoenix bursts into flame and the bird is reborn out of the ashes. This bird is flying while on fire.
Still, it’s a phoenix, an image of rebirth. Which is why it came to mind to have a phoenix, but I don’t like all of the oriental phoenix birds that look like peacocks or turkeys on fire. I made sure that this one would resemble a bird of prey.

wow! a flying burning phoenix … cool … well … i am sure it didn’t feel cool having it done. ;) i bet you felt that burn while you were having it done yes? can’t wait to see it IN REAL LIVE PERSON! :)
Tim,
I think of it as an outward expression of what has transpired on the inside. Tattoos can also be said to show a measure of commitment, since you have to invest money, and go through some pain and some shedding of blood. That said, in no way do I believe that believers need to get tattoos to show their commitment. I have also thought of getting my wedding band tattooed on my hand, since at my work, I have to remove my ring to prevent injury. Again, not that I have to, but it would simply be me expressing what is within my heart in an indelible sort of way.
Sherri,
No, it didn’t feel cool having it done.
